JACL Responds to the Crisis in Japan

The Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) has joined with Direct Relief International (DRI)in an effort to support relief and recovery efforts in Japan following the devastating earthquake and tsunami. Because DRI's administrative costs are covered by outside sources of funds, and JACL is not hiring additional staff for this fundraising effort, 100% of the donations received will go directly toward earthquake and tsunami relief efforts.

Floyd Mori, JACL National Executive Director and Thomas Tighe, CEO and President of Direct Relief International issued the following statement:  "This is a massive and complex emergency in Japan that we recognize is beyhond the capacity of any one orgranization to address fully so we believe this collaboration makes sense, and we encourage other people, businesses and organizations to join together to support the people in Japan at this most difficult time."

Pacific Northwest Region Response

The catastrophic earthquake and tsunami which struck the northeastern region of Japan on March 11 and the ongoing nuclear crisis, has left thousands homeless and in need of direct support for emergency assistance and aid to to the affected areas.  In response to this crisis, the PNW-JACL has partnered with other community and non-profit organizations to raise funds for the relief and recovery efforts in Japan.  Together we have launched a website:  SeattleJapanRelief.com to aid in directing the overwhelming generosity of our community to organizations that have well established operations already set-up in the Tohoku region.

Please visit the website SeattleJapanRelief.com to see the growing list of supporting organizations and links to the organizations that have been identified by the local network to receive donations.
